WHAT MAKES YOU TICK?

15/5/2018

Bodylushious has been in operation since 2015, but really gained momentum only at the end of 2017.  I draw so much of my inspiration from businesses both local and further afield: businesses who are doing something that really makes them tick, putting their energy and creativity into projects they are passionate about.  When looking for like-minded folk to collaborate with, or sourcing potential stockists, it’s these qualities that I’m most drawn to.  Without a “shop” of my own to speak of (though we’ll be launching our all-new-all-singing Etsy shop this summer, watch this space!), Bodylushious stockists really are vital to what I do, and I couldn’t be happier with where the products have landed.  I’m delighted that Bodylushious products have found a home at the following places – if you’re unfamiliar with any of these businesses, have a gander online or in real life!

Our Stockists
  • Aberdour Post and Pantry, Aberdour, Fife.  Run by the dynamic duo Amanda and Pamela, Aberdour Post & Pantry recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.  I can speak from experience in saying that this store of edible and gift-worthy goodies provides that extra special something for your meals, afternoon teas, parties… well anything really.  And, of course, you can catch up on your snail mail duties at the same time.  If you haven’t been in already I recommend you get along, you’ll see what I’m on about.
  • Century General Store, Abbeyhill & Stockbridge, Edinburgh.  The day I began collaborating with this crew was a very good day indeed.  I can’t rate highly enough the care, attention, fairness and energy the owner gives to the business and its customers.  The commitment to working with local, ethical and unique retailers and makers is outstanding; it’s such a privilege to have our products on their shelves.  Having the right space for our workshops is so important and the area upstairs at Century General Store is perfect.  And the coffee and the cinnamon scrolls – WOW -  in my opinion – the best combo to kick off a workshop or weekend.
  • Cromwell Kitchen, Burntisland, Fife.  This lot really really know how to do good business.  I learn so much from them.  And what they do they do so well.  They’ve been really generous with sharing what they know and love (knowledge & food to name just two).  Not a week goes by where we don’t collaborate on something.  Life in business on your own can be very lonely so for me; collaborating with other businesses is crucial to continuance.  Perhaps the best business advice I’ve had in the past year from this crew is “do something different/interesting and tell people about it”.  Is that not Business 101 summarised!
  • Good Food, Morningside, Edinburgh.  When I came across this store when I first moved to Scotland in 2014, if felt like a homecoming for a girl with an interest in clean living.  I immediately struck up a bond with Karyn the South African owner and shared some really special conversations, with one theme being encouragement to grow my own business.  Good Food were the first retailer of Bodylushious products.
  • Lovecrumbs, Grassmarket, Edinburgh.  It all started with a kiwi conversation (about NZ with a kiwi).  This fun and awesome crew really know how to do the café scene well, and for a while there they were the go-to place when I needed a treat while bub snoozed. They’ve been so kind and supportive in stocking our products alongside quite possibly the tastiest cakes and bakes in Edinburgh!  Which reminds me, now I’m in Fife, I’m long overdue in getting along and having a slice of something nice.
  • Potter About Cafe, Burntisland, Fife.  You won’t find a more community-minded business than this… seriously, it's top of the pops.  It’s a joy to be in the company of such a big-hearted business who will go to the ends of the earth (quite literally) to support a cause, a local enterprise (such as Totally Locally) or a community event.  Their door is always open, with delicious home baking & hot drinks waiting for tired mums & hungry tums.

And it's not just stockists who inspire Bodylushious.  Day in and day out, I endlessly draw courage and inspiration in developing myself and my own business from some of my favourite people who are living their dream and reaching out to help others shake things up a bit, both spiritually and literally getting your body moving!

  • Island Moves, Burntisland, Fife.   I get along to both the Nia and Groove classes every week to let off steam, dance with what feels like family and practice being childlike again with what I believe to be world class teachers (I can actually say that as I’ve lived all over the show).  The space always feels safe and welcoming, so it gets easier and easier to let go a little more each time.
  • Faith Canter.  How’s this for a job title?  “Health, Wellness and Self-Love, Author, Coach & Explorer!”  Wow!  I met Faith when my son was first born, and got a little bit OCD about fermentation…. then I went on to get others a little OCD as well.  Faith continues to shine her light on my life and reminds me of what matters.  She also has Dalmatians and lives in Portugal where she is living her dream doing what she does….
  • Yoga with Adriene (YouTube).  I’ve never much been one for exercise at home.  But that has all changed with having a small child, less time and the craving of more stillness from home.  If you are interested in Yoga, get involved asap… and set aside an area where you can get your Yoga on – Adriene’s videos will give you some inspiration on calming aesthetics.
  •  Yes Yoga with Tess.  Despite having never actually done one of Tess’s classes, I’m astounded by the energy and focus Tess has poured into shifting away from life as a school teacher to doing something more in line with who she is, all whilst being a mega mamma to a toddler and bravely and boldy reassessing and implementing change where it’s needed.  All done with a whole lotta love and passion not just for her work, but sending that good stuff out to the world.
  • We Heart Yoga with Mary.  Mary is one of those people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting (and doing Yoga with) who will leave a really deep and meaningful imprint on my soul forever.  I met Mary at a super tumultuous time in my life and so what she provided through her Yoga classes was in a sense deep nourishment and love for my mind, body and soul.  I find Mary to be so present, authentic and loving and damn I need to get back to another class sometime….

Wow, seems to be a general theme here: women in business with a focus on well-being.  Yeah, I’m happy with that!  If I think of my life as a story, I’ve just come to the end of Chapter 1 of Bron & Burntisland… making a few edits before leaping into Chapter 2.  That means focusing my energy on stepping Bodylushious up a level, with loads of positive updates, including a new online shop where you’ll be able to buy every product, and a big workshop on the calendar for August at a very special venue indeed.  I’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for reading.  Have a sunny, nourishing week! Bronwyn x
